valentines day

Thursday, February 14, 2008

I'm sitting here at work listening to a webcast and decided to try this blogging stuff out since Nickie has done it all. Forgive me for any mistakes that I make. Nickie and I are going to a resturaunt called Pine American tonight. We are really excited because we also get to go out tomorrow night which we haven't been able to do for about a month and a half. I've attached a photo just to see if it works.

the mtc

Sunday, February 10, 2008

We took Paige to the MTC last Wednesday (she's going to Mesa Arizona, Spanish speaking). We were all able to get off work to see her off. It was emotional, but it felt like we were just wishing her off to her next adventure. We got a letter from her Friday, which sounds like she's struggling a bit, but keeping a good attitude. I remember when I was in the MTC I really struggled Wednesday - Saturday, but once Sunday rolled around I was feeling good and excited to be there. Hopefully she feels the same.

a brighton loss

Brighton played Taylorsville on Friday and lost 30 - 31 in overtime. It was a big game and because of the loss, they are out of the State Tournament. Brighton played really well the first quarter putting together some sweet passes ending the quarter 11 - 4, but they just couldn't hold them off for the rest of the game. The girls were really bummed and Oms was too. He said this is the first year Brighton hasn't gone to the tournament since he has been coaching. He's optimistic about next season though. They play Jordan Wednesday, which will be their last game of the season.

Up and Down

Sunday, February 3, 2008

The Brighton girls played two great games this week against Skyline on Wednesday and Hillcrest on Friday. They lost against Skyline 36 - 39, but played a great game. They were down 30-26 in the third quarter but went 4 straight possessions without a shot due to turnovers. The game came down to a last second 3 point attempt to tie at the buzzer but the shot was off the mark. The girls were not discouraged however and came back with a nice win against Hillcrest on Friday night. They got off to a slow start and trailed 12-4 at the end of the first quarter, but fought back to a 20-20 tie at the half. The game came down to the 4th quarter where the Bengals held their nerve and ended up with a 49-44 victory.

Hinckley Challenge

I was touched many times this weekend as I watched and heard tributes to President Hinckley and the miracles he brought forth during his time as the prophet of the church. I recieved an email including a challenge to read the Book of Mormon in 97 days. I have failed over the past three years to participate in two challenges to read the Book of Mormon and I feel I have missed out on many blessings that could have been mine if I had but made the sacrifice and taken the time to read. I have been touched by President Hinckley's diligence and his never-ending effort to try a little harder. I need to try a little harder in my efforts to follow the prophet. Join me if you'd like.
